Perched atop Bahirawa Kanda hill, the Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue is an iconic symbol of peace and a must-visit tourist attraction in Kandy. This towering white statue, officially known as Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, stands at an impressive 88 feet (27 meters) tall, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. Its serene presence overlooks the entire city, offering a breathtaking panoramic view that is particularly spectacular at sunset and after dark when the statue and the city lights twinkle below.

The statue depicts the Buddha in the Dhyana Mudra pose, the meditative posture associated with his first enlightenment.
