The Dutch Reformed Church
The Dutch Reformed Church in Sri Lanka, now known as the Christian Reformed Church in Sri Lanka, is the oldest Protestant denomination on the island, established by the Dutch East India Company in 1642 and later evolving from a colonial institution to a nationally identified church. It is recognized for its historic church buildings, such as the Wolvendaal Church in Colombo and the Groote Kerk in Galle Fort, which represent a fusion of Dutch colonial and local Sri Lankan cultures and architecture. In 2007, the church officially changed its name to reflect its Sri Lankan Christian identity, moving away from its Dutch colonial heritage.
